We have an exciting opportunity for a Commissioning Editor (Journals) to join the Medicine and Healthcare team. Reporting to the Commissioning Team Manager, this role is responsible for the commissioning of content, management and development of journals within the Medicine & Healthcare, Expert Series.

This is an ideal role for someone who has a genuine interest/background in biomedical or biological science, and who enjoys the process of researching relevant scientific literature and commissioning ideas for new articles. This unique role allows you to work closely with some of the world’s foremost experts in clinical research and drug development, all while gaining a working knowledge of journal operations from one of the world’s biggest STM publishers.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Building a detailed knowledge of relevant therapy areas, including key topics of interest and developments in the field and building your own profile in those areas, through networking, social media and virtual/in-person conference attendance.
  • Commissioning high quality and relevant content for journals in the Expert Series.
  • Ensuring delivery of that content to specified timelines and quality standards, according to the strategies and timetables set out by the Commissioning Team Manager.
  • Building and maintaining close relationships with authors, editorial boards and key opinion leaders.
  • Maintaining oversight of peer review and editorial decision making and ensuring that both are carried out to specific quality standards according to editorial policies.
  • Ensuring all relevant guidelines and policies are followed, including editorial policies, and best in industry level ethical practice.
  • Conducting periodic process reviews, to maintain best in industry levels of customer service.

Team & Culture: The Medicine and Health Commissioning team is a large and friendly team with Commissioning Team Managers who each oversee 4-6 Commissioning Editors. There is lots of space for personal growth and development within the Commissioning Editor Role, but also within the wider company of Taylor & Francis.

Qualifications

What we’re looking for:

  • Due to the nature of the role and requirements, candidates are expected to be educated to degree level in medical/biomedical sciences.
  • An active personal interest in medical/biomedical sciences is highly beneficial.
  • Relevant experience in publishing or medical communications is highly beneficial.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Creativity and a genuine curiosity for the Medicine and Healthcare industry.
  • Experience with problem solving, initiating debate, ensuring ideas are explored and implemented if appropriate.
  • Excellent team-working skills.
  • Drive for results and a self-starter.
  • Strong independent time management and ability to prioritise own workload to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent organisational skills.

What you should know: This role will be based in the UK, and you must have the right to work and live in the United Kingdom. The successful candidate will be able to utilise our balanced working model. We ask that candidates live within a commutable distance of our London office (240 Blackfriars Rd) to ensure that as a balanced worker they can make it to our office locations to collaborate as required. There is an expectation for a minimum of 3 days per week in-person time.
