We have a fantastic opportunity for a Broadcast Engineer to join the Outernet team. In this role, you’ll support the maintenance, operation, and continuous improvement of our cutting-edge broadcast systems. Reporting directly to the Broadcast Engineer Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the technical reliability of our broadcast infrastructure - responding to alerts, resolving issues, and carrying out essential software and hardware maintenance. You will contribute to the planning and testing of business continuity strategies, support system upgrades and workflow rollouts, and help document technical processes. The role also involves assisting with immersive audio workflows and ensuring compliance with broadcast standards. As part of our operational coverage team, you will participate in an on-call rotation to help maintain uninterrupted service. Key Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain, configure, and upgrade the broadcast engineering environment, ensuring all system reliability.
  • Provide 1st and 2nd line support for broadcast engineering systems.
  • Administer and maintain Windows/macOS-based engines and servers, ensuring updates, patches, and configurations are current and aligned with best practices.
  • Maintain a proactive software upgrade and maintenance schedule, including managing licenses and application updates across broadcast technology environments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex service-impacting issues using a wide range of broadcast and production monitoring tools.
  • Monitor system health and performance; initiate incident responses and implement preventative measures to reduce downtime.
  • Support all broadcast and control systems (e.g., video processors, control surfaces, audio networks, real-time engines) ensuring they function without interruption.
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors and internal stakeholders to escalate and resolve infrastructure or software issues in a timely manner.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Collaborate with creative, events and operational teams to test, validate, and integrate content into Outernet's broadcast technology platforms and align technical solutions with business needs.

Monitoring & Process Improvement

  • Document support activities, incidents, root causes, and resolutions to support continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
  • Support the introduction of process improvements, optimising system uptime and team efficiency.
  • Support spatial and immersive audio workflows using technologies such as L-ISA or equivalent platforms.

Compliance & Documentation

  • Report to Broadcast Engineering Manager in relation to all Health & Safety obligations with adherence to all policies, risk assessments and ensure PPE is worn as prescribed.
  • Comply with all data protection regulations and ensure that all processes are in line with Ofcom standards.
  • Maintain accurate configuration records, licenses, network diagrams, and system change logs.
  • Keep up to date with all regulatory requirements in Broadcast Operations.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Highly desirable to have 3+ years of experience supporting and developing solutions in a 24/7 media production, broadcast, or immersive technology environment.
  • Proficient in Windows and macOS systems administration, including servers, and workstations.
  • Solid understanding of media workflows, real-time content pipelines, rendering systems, and file delivery mechanisms.
  • Solid fault diagnosis and problem-solving capabilities in complex, interconnected broadcast engineering systems.
  • Familiarity with media-related computer networks, hardware, and software platforms.
  • Proficient in using monitoring and diagnostic tools to proactively detect and resolve issues.
  • Able to work collaboratively with external vendors and internal partners to ensure seamless technical operations.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks based on service impact and operate effectively under pressure.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with Evertz broadcast and routing systems.
  • Knowledge of Dell EMC PowerScale (Isilon) storage infrastructure.
  • Experience with Dante audio-over-IP systems and signal routing.
  • Familiarity with real-time engines such as Unreal Engine and Unity.
  • Ability to script or automate basic tasks using tools such as PowerShell or Python.

Education

  • A bachelor's degree, or equivalent vocational or practical experience in broadcast engineering, media technology, or a related field.
