We’re looking for a brilliant Market Insight Analyst to join our team of colleagues in British Gas Business, that together are setting the standard in energy supply. In the complicated world of energy, we strive to make energy simple, creating a straightforward and hassle-free experience for our customers. You will be responsible for constantly monitoring the business energy supply market and competitive landscape to identify impactful trends, threats and opportunities. You will support various teams across BGB and contribute to growing product sales, renewals and ultimately market share within our target segments. You will be expected to be the expert on competitors, ensuring all findings are recorded, analysed, reported and are subsequently available to help drive decision making.
The Market & Competitor Insight Team provides the company with an outside view of the market and prides itself on objectivity and analytical rigour. Our outputs use a combination of written analysis accompanied by charting and analytics.
Location: Leicester / Windsor with FlexFirst hybrid working.
About your role: You will actively engage with diverse internal stakeholders to understand their information needs, fostering collaborative relationships to share market intelligence, and deliver prompt and data-driven insights. Develop a deep understanding of the business energy supply market including customer needs, competitive landscape and industry trends. Proactively monitor developments in the business energy supply market and update the team’s market intelligence site on SharePoint several times a day with relevant content including news, opinions, data, and insights and share them with appropriate groups and individuals. Regularly update and analyse market data from a wide range of sources including internal performance metrics, energy industry and government stats and distil and communicate insights in a timely and accessible manner. Maintain timely understanding of business sentiment and confidence surveys and trends and regulatory changes with respect to energy supply and the potential impact to our clients. Prepare and deliver a weekly market and competitor update through the production of a concise but insightful, weekly report that is sent to subscribers of our services. Create intelligence reports, forward-looking insights, and deep-dive analysis (both ad-hoc and regular) with actionable insight. Ensure a good understanding of competitors pricing strategies, maintain and process pricebook data weekly and track bespoke pricing. Create and maintain competitor profiles, battlecards and comparison tables, covering products, propositions, services, business models, financials, etc. Design, build, roll-out and manage processes, tools and dashboards that automate reporting and allow stakeholders to easily access intelligence and insights including market share, Gains & Losses and others. Support and contribute to the production of the quarterly energy market report for internal and external audiences. Develop a broad network external contacts to keep abreast with market trends and business sentiment.
Here’s what we’re looking for: Relevant degree with a 2:1 or equivalent experience in market research, market intelligence. The right candidate must be able to adapt to and embrace constant change, whilst a thirst for knowledge and curiosity are also essential. This is a multidisciplinary role that requires a blend of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail and communication skills. Experience analysing and synthesising hard and soft data, identifying implications and observing patterns, drawing conclusions, and explaining facts, data or information from a wide variety of resources. Ability to manipulate large data sets and use analysis techniques to analyse data in Excel and creating PowerBI dashboards. Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal. Experienced in producing reports and PowerPoint presentations and delivering them to both peers and senior stakeholders. Ability to translate and visualise data in a concise and accurate way that’s easy to digest. Proven ability to manage multiple activities and prioritise workload. Self-directed working approach: pro-active, flexible, resilient, motivated, and creative.
