ABOUT THE ROLE
Role Overview:
- Reports to: Head of Events, DC Thomson
- Location and Ways of Working: This is a hybrid role offering a blend of home and office working from one of our office locations in Aberdeen or Dundee.
- Contract Type: Full-time (35 hours per week), Fixed-Term Contract
- Contract Duration/End Date: This is a 12-month fixed-term contract. However, the exact end date will depend on your start date, so an earlier start ensures you benefit from the full contract length.
Overall Objective: As an Events Manager, you will produce and deliver high-quality events within the DC Thomson portfolio across the UK. This role offers a high degree of autonomy and ownership across a range of events including but not limited to conferences and exhibitions, awards dinners, black-tie events, virtual events, product launches and consumer events.
Key Responsibilities:
- Source and negotiate supplier agreements for events
- Source and book event MCs, speakers, entertainment, food, venues, AV, print, travel, accommodation, photographers, videographers, room dressing and any other appropriate supplier products/services
- Work closely with the sales team to ensure the sponsorship benefits are delivered to each event sponsor
- Manage sponsor relationships successfully
- Deliver each event within the cost budget
- Manage the event running order and timings on the evening
- Floor manage the event
- Co-ordinate staff working at the event including a staffing schedule
- Work closely with the marketing team to execute a full marketing plan
- Generate new and relevant event ideas for the team
- Work as part of a team and help colleagues as and when required
- Update event websites as and when required
- Provide accurate and up-to-date forecasting information to the Head of Events as and when required
- Provide progress reports on a weekly basis to the Head of Events
- Represent DC Thomson in a professional manner at all times and act as an ambassador for the business
Requirements Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
- Strong commercial knowledge and awareness, including understanding of profit and loss, event design, events industry and market trends, competitors, etc.
- Events qualification (desirable but not essential)
- Excellent organisational, communication, numerical, writing, project management and presentation skills
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Experienced in managing multiple events
- Has demonstrable project management experience
- Skilled in creating and managing P&Ls
- Confident in communicating at director level within organisations
- Has experience writing scripts
- Proven experience and ability to negotiate effectively with suppliers
