The role:
- As a Confined Space Coordinator, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary as you’ll impact directly on safety within the confined spaces work environment whilst obtaining training and development.
- Day-to-day, you’ll act as focal point for all confined space work activities within area of responsibility.
- Ensure that the confined spaces Safe System of Work (SSoW) is in place, maintained and complied with.
- Issue Permit to Works (PTW) for confined spaces and ensure cancelling of a permit on completion of a task.
- Ensure safety checks defined on the relevant permit to work have been carried out before issuing a permit.
- Withdraw a permit if an unexpected hazard or non-compliance with the SSoW becomes apparent, liaising with the Supervisor and work team as appropriate.
- Ensure atmospheric testing of a Confined Space has been carried out and a valid clearance certificate has been issued by a competent analyst prior to authorisation of work in the space.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
Essential experience:
- Knowledge and experience of working in Tanks and Confined Spaces.
- Knowledge and experience of running a Safe System of Work (SSoW).
- Sound and demonstrable knowledge of Confined Space control requirements and standards.
- Fully conversant with Confined Space working arrangements and able to ensure compliance with conditions set out in a Confined Space Permit to Work.
Qualifications:
- Confined Space Awareness (HS0415).
- Management and Supervision of Work in Confined Spaces (HS0143).
- OPITO Level 1 Authorised Gas Tester (AGT).
In addition, the following qualifications would be desirable and would be expected to be attained during employment:
- IOSH Managing Safely (HS0049)
- City & Guilds Level 2 Working in Medium Risk Confined Spaces.
Security Clearance:
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
