The Financial Controller will lead the finance and accounting function (Payroll Manager, Payroll Admin, Billings Manager and Accounts Assistant), ensuring robust financial control, compliance, and reporting. This role will play a key part in supporting strategic decision-making, managing budgets, streamlining financial processes, and ensuring alignment with company goals.

The role:

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
  • Monitor and optimise cash flow, working capital, and liquidity management.
  • Manage banking relationships and oversee debt and financing facilities.
  • Develop internal controls, policies, and procedures to mitigate financial risk.
  • Ensure robust systems for fraud prevention, expense control, and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement, financial accountability, and transparency.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with HR, Operations, and Business Support to align finance with business needs.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
  • Lead financial planning and analysis (FP&A), including forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal financial and tax regulations.
  • Manage the year-end audit process and liaise with external auditors.
  • Develop and monitor key financial KPIs and performance metrics across divisions.
  • Analyse costs, pricing, and profitability across service lines and contracts.
  • Provide financial input for new bids, contract renewals, and commercial proposals.
  • Collaborate with operations and HR to ensure accurate labour costing and forecasting.
  • Support financial modelling for strategic initiatives, acquisitions, or expansion plans.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA Qualified Accountant
  • A proven track record in a similar role as Financial Controller or Finance Manager
  • Experience working within a service-based industry would be an advantage e.g. facilities management and commercial cleaning
  • Experience with multi-site operations and complex payroll with a large workforce
