We’re hiring on behalf of a specialist heavy fabrication business in Manchester, looking to bring a skilled Welding Engineer or Coordinator into their quality team. This is a critical hire that will play a big part in maintaining welding standards across complex projects – including armoured structures and legacy defence equipment.

The Role:

You’ll be the go-to for welding coordination, helping to maintain the Welding Quality Management System (WQMS) and supporting production, quality and engineering teams across the shop floor. The role has a good balance of planning, problem-solving and technical input.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Ensuring compliance with EN 1090, ISO 3834 and DIN 2303 standards.
  • Creating and maintaining WPSs, SOPs, and welder qualifications.
  • Root cause analysis of weld issues and leading RCCA activities.
  • Supporting audits, both internal and external.
  • Advising on best-fit welding technology and plant selection.
  • Reviewing suppliers for welding capability.
  • Liaising with Design and Production Engineering on new and existing products.

What we’re looking for:

  • IWT or EWT qualified (essential).
  • CSWIP 3.1 certification (essential).
  • Hands-on knowledge of MIG/MAG, TIG and SMAW processes.
  • Strong understanding of ISO 3834 and ability to interpret technical drawings.
  • Comfortable working across departments in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
  • Proactive, problem-solving mindset with solid organisational skills.
  • Willingness to travel for audits or training if needed.
  • This role is based on site in Manchester, only candidates who are able to work full time on site will be considered. You must also have full right to work in the UK.

Bonus if you have:

  • IWE/EWE or MSc in Welding Engineering.
  • Experience with armour steel or aluminium welding.
  • Familiarity with DIN 2303 or EN 1090 in depth.
  • Exposure to mechanised or automated welding systems.
