About the Company: Legal 500 was founded by John Pritchard in 1987 as the original clients’ guide to law firms, the first of its kind. It is now a data-driven, AI-optimised research platform which benchmarks, informs and connects providers and users of legal services in over 100 countries worldwide. Our research and data are trusted and relied upon by corporate clients globally as an essential part of the process, both of instructing law firms with new mandates, and when reviewing existing mandates or panels. We exist to empower both buyers and sellers in the international legal marketplace to make better decisions and have improved outcomes for their organisations. This is achieved by leveraging a trusted, comprehensive research process with a unique, vast, proprietary and constantly updated set of client-supplied data, unrivalled in the market.
On the supply side of the legal market, every year Legal 500’s team of over 150 researchers, technologists, data analysts, journalists and content specialists collate and review 60,000+ data-submissions from law firms and conduct interviews with thousands of leading law firm partners. On the demand side, Legal 500 analyses confidential data from 300,000+ commercial law firm clients to benchmark law firms and lawyers by practice area; industry; jurisdiction; as well as by proprietary client satisfaction metrics, NPS, and other qualitative and quantitative criteria. Legal 500 is the only source of this depth of global research and data on law firms, lawyers and their clients.
Role Overview: We’re hiring a Senior Infrastructure Engineer on a 12-month Fixed Term Contract to support delivery across our on-prem and cloud environments. This role is delivery-focused — it’s about getting things done, not growing into leadership. The role supports a longer-term team development plan internally. We’re looking for the person we bring in to enable that development plan, not compete with it.
Key Role Objectives:
- Execute hands-on infrastructure work across BAU and project streams
- Deliver project outcomes with minimal oversight
- Provide knowledge transfer and technical mentoring by example (not formal coaching)
- Support existing infrastructure while helping us modernise and improve operational efficiency
Technical Profile: Our ideal candidate is someone strong across the following areas:
- Hybrid environments: Hyper-V, Windows Server, local storage
- Networking: SonicWall firewalls (HA pair), VPN, general routing/switching fundamentals
- Cloud: Microsoft Azure (including basic automation), Intune, Teams migrations
- Telephony: Exposure to SIP-based systems (Avaya ideal, but not essential)
- Scripting: PowerShell — ideally someone who documents their work and can tidy or refactor existing scripts
Bonus: Any experience with transitions (on-prem to cloud), modernising infra, or cleanup/consolidation work.
Working Style / Expectations:
- Adaptable, dependable, and delivery-oriented.
- Someone who can jump in, get on with the work, and flex as priorities shift.
- Not chasing progression or trying to embed permanently — this is not a stepping stone into a longer-term leadership role.
- Happy working solo or alongside others — a balance of independent ownership and being a good team player.
- Comfortable engaging with people outside the IT team in a personable, clear, and collaborative way.
This is a skilled delivery role with a clear purpose and an end date — and the right person will thrive in that clarity.
