Specialist Clinical Psychologist Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to work within Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust within the Southport Community mental health team. This post is suitable for both newly qualified and current band 8a psychologists. The service will offer relevant training and support to ensure newly qualified applicants are eligible for preceptorship to an 8a clinical psychology post.

The service offers group and individual interventions utilizing a range of models including CBT, EMDR, MBT, Psychodynamic, ISTDP, CFT, and Psycho-education. A stepped care model is used to provide service users with a range of psychological interventions appropriate to their level of need. You would be joining a team that includes a Principal Clinical Psychologist, a Consultant Psychotherapist, a Specialist Clinical Psychologist, and Assistant Psychologists.

This role is varied and suited to those who enjoy engaging service users in a secondary care setting and working within a multidisciplinary team. Opportunities include 1:1 and group clinical work, consultation, training, reflective practice, and supervision of Trainee Clinical Psychologists.

Applicants must have a recognized qualification (or be in the process of completing it). Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology accredited by the BPS or its approved equivalent is required. You will work within a team to support people with a range of psychological issues by providing specialist psychological assessments, therapy, and interventions to service users and carers, utilizing various models where appropriate.

You will also offer specialist advice, leadership, and consultation to non-psychologist colleagues and support the development of psychological skills across the workforce through training, supervision, mentorship, and reflective practice. Psychological input is highly valued by staff within services, so experience working with other services, championing psychological interventions, and developing partnerships is essential.

• Conduct specialist psychological assessments based on complex data from various sources.
• Formulate and implement treatment plans employing evidence-based methods.
• Deliver a range of psychological interventions to individuals, families, and groups, adjusting formulations as needed.
• Evaluate treatment options considering theoretical and therapeutic models and complex individual factors.
• Exercise autonomous professional responsibility for assessment, treatment, and discharge of clients.
• Provide psychological advice, guidance, and consultation to other professionals.
• Contribute to a psychologically informed framework of care across settings.
• Undertake risk assessments and advise on psychological aspects of risk management.
• Act as care coordinator when appropriate, reviewing care plans under enhanced CPA.
• Communicate assessment, formulation, and treatment information sensitively and monitor progress.
