Our client is a leading global specialist in air transport communications and information. This is a 3-month contract role reporting to the Head of Sanctions, Ethics & Compliance, where you will be part of the Sanctions, Ethics and Compliance team responsible for the company’s global sanctions, ethics and compliance programme.
You will be accountable for:
- Trade sanctions and export control compliance: (70% of time) Support global business in complying with sanctions and export controls laws and regulations, conduct due diligence, work on licenses applications to the UK, US and EU authorities, collaborate with external lawyers on complex matters, and provide advice and training on the compliance programme.
- Compliance support: (30% of time) Assist the Head of Sanctions, Ethics and Compliance or other team members in the application and continuous development of various elements of the ethics and compliance programme.
Your main contacts will include GEO Legal (customer-facing lawyers), Business Unit support lawyers, Procurement team, Data Privacy team, Finance & Treasury, Internal Audit, Local Sales, Logistics, Shareholder Relationship, Supply Chain team, and external counsel where applicable.
What You Will Do:
- Support the further development and maintenance of the existing sanctions and export control compliance programme and the general compliance programme.
- Promote a corporate culture where ethical and compliant values-based behaviour is embraced by all employees, including compliance with the Code of Conduct.
- Assist in designing and implementing adequate compliance policies, processes, and procedures.
- Support training of staff and prepare training material.
- Assess and action relevant legal and regulatory requirements and changes in regulations.
- Conduct counterparty screening and due diligence of vendors, customers, banks, and other third parties.
- Collaborate with other departments to direct compliance issues to appropriate channels for investigation and resolution.
- Participate in internal investigations.
- Identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk, and support the development of those areas.
- Support corrective action plans for issue resolution and provide guidance on avoiding similar situations in the future.
- Assist the Head of Sanctions, Ethics and Compliance in monitoring the performance of the Compliance Program.
Who you are/Qualification:
- Law degree or Master’s in Law, or a degree/formal qualification in Compliance.
- At least 2 years of previous work experience in compliance, with exposure to other compliance areas and preferably commercial work.
- Experience working for a law firm and/or in-house legal or compliance team.
- Experience in an international environment, including different cultures.
- Comfortable presenting to different audiences and able to influence and convince.
- Knowledge and experience in using modern due diligence tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Excellent inter-personal skills.
