Responsibilities

  • Supervise camper activities to ensure a fun, safe environment
  • Execute weekly camp games, activities, on-campus field trips, crafts, etc.
  • Correctly respond to any injury or emergency situations
  • Provide encouragement to all participants in the program
  • Monitor camper drop-off and pick-up each day
  • Fully participate in all camp games and activities, including swimming during pool time and belaying during climbing at the rock wall
  • Handle camper disputes and other behavioral issues; accordingly, discipline as necessary
  • Effectively communicate with parents and guardians throughout the camp day
  • Promote a safe, learning environment for campers
  • Be available for both morning, afternoon shifts, and periodically throughout the Fall and Spring semester
  • Attend staff meetings as scheduled
  • Work within a non-smoking, physically active environment
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Minimum Requirements: Degree seeking student at UAB
  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid for the Professional Rescuer (CPRO) Certification
  • Complete all other required training upon hiring: Safety Skills, Disability Support Services Certification, Emergency Evacuation Training Certification
  • Required Skills: Basic computer competency
  • Ability to handle customer service issues related to Camp activity
  • Ability to communicate effectively with participants and professional staff
  • Ability to multitask and manage time effectively and efficiently

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Outdoor environment
  • Office environment/fitness center environment
  • Moderate to loud noise

Physical Demands

  • Ability to withstand extended periods of standing, jumping, swift movements, and other physical activities inside and outside
  • May require hearing and talking
  • Ability to withstand extended periods of activity and communication
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs. regularly
