The Future Medicines Institute (FMI) is a new industry-led research hub for Life and Health Sciences in Northern Ireland, hosted by Queen’s University Belfast (QUB). It aims to foster collaboration, cluster development, and engagement in research and development for commercial and academic partners. The FMI will house over 50 staff from QUB and partners, located near key research centers. The FMI is funded by the Department of Economy, Northern Ireland, and managed as a UKRI Strengths in Places Fund project.
Role Overview:
The post holder will develop bioinformatics tools, workflows, and cloud infrastructure to support genomics and multi-omics data analysis across FMI projects. The role involves working closely with biologists, bioinformaticians, and software developers to integrate computational methods with scalable cloud platforms, streamlining data processing, analysis, and sharing. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software engineering, data engineering, and cloud computing, with a proactive, collaborative attitude.
About the Person:
The successful candidate must meet the following criteria:
- Degree in computer science, bioinformatics, data engineering, or a related discipline.
- Have or about to obtain a relevant PhD (must be obtained within 3 months of interview).
- Relevant research experience.
- Experience designing and deploying scalable cloud infrastructures (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Proficiency in bioinformatics pipeline development (e.g., RNA-seq, single-cell RNA-seq, exomes).
- Expertise in HPC infrastructure / Linux systems and implementation of R and/or Python packages.
- Publication record appropriate to career stage.
