The Lifescape Project – a growing charity dedicated to protecting and restoring wild landscapes, ensuring a sustainable future for all life on earth – is seeking a Managing Ecological Economist to lead its economics projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading economics workstreams and developing strategies to leverage economic and financial mechanisms for ecosystem protection and restoration.
- Managing and delivering economics projects with clear work plans, meeting deadlines, and assessing risks.
- Developing and managing project budgets, tracking expenses, ensuring financial compliance, and authorizing expenditures.
- Seeking new opportunities internationally, including identifying funding sources, leading bids, and forming partnerships.
- Managing team members, including line management, pastoral care, and performance reviews.
- Handling external communications related to projects and economics.
- Participating in the Management Team to support the CEO with strategy, communications, HR, and organizational planning.
- Staying informed on policies and best practices related to nature finance, rewilding economics, natural capital, ecosystem services, and environmental valuation.
Skills and Experience
- Experience managing skilled teams on ecological economics or nature finance projects in public or private sectors.
- Proven project management skills.
- Excellent research and report-writing abilities, including literature reviews.
- Familiarity with environmental and ecological economics approaches.
- Experience working with diverse stakeholders.
- Leadership, collaboration, and adaptability skills.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical information, including Excel-based analysis.
- A commitment to non-profit/public interest advocacy for nature.
A friendly, close-knit team of ecologists, lawyers, social scientists, and economists passionate about Lifescape’s vision. Additional benefits include 36 days’ annual leave, retreats, full pension, computing equipment, and flexible remote working options.
Salary: £47,000 – £52,000, depending on experience and working arrangements.
Location: Remote, with international travel. Open to UK and non-UK residents.
