Steer Academy provides accredited ongoing training – paid for by the business Opportunities for career progression About the Role As a Workshop Controller, you will be responsible for managing the daily operations of a busy and fast-paced workshop. Your focus will be on ensuring that vehicle repairs and maintenance are completed efficiently, safely, and to the highest standard. You will lead a team of skilled technicians, coordinate workflow, and serve as the key link between the workshop and front-of-house staff. In addition, you will support the VDA team in damage assessments and job planning. Key Responsibilities Oversee the daily running of the workshop, ensuring efficient job flow and timely delivery of work. Allocate jobs to technicians based on skills and workload to maximise productivity. Conduct quality control checks to ensure all work meets company, manufacturer, and industry standards. Liaise with service advisors to provide timely and accurate updates to customers. Ensure health and safety regulations and best practices are followed at all times. Manage parts and inventory in collaboration with the Parts team to support continuous workflow. Mentor and train staff, supporting professional development and maintaining a positive team environment. About You You will have a strong background in the automotive repair industry, ideally as an MET, Panel or Paint Technician, or VDA, with supervisory experience. You will also have: A thorough technical understanding of vehicle systems and repair methods. Strong leadership and organisational skills. The ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of health and safety procedures and risk assessments. Confidence in using workshop management systems and other software tools. Experience with vehicle damage estimating and ideally Audatex. A valid UK driving licence.
