What are we looking for?
Reporting directly to Director, Legal & Practice Group Chair, International in the Cleveland Clinic Law Department based in the United States, the Head of Legal for Cleveland Clinic London (CCL) will act as the sole London-based legal counsel providing legal advice and oversight across Cleveland Clinic London activities, supported by the enterprise-wide Cleveland Clinic Law and Compliance Departments as well as local external legal counsel as required. The role has close working relationships with all members of the CCL Executive Team and includes a dotted line reporting relationship to the Chief Commercial Officer at CCL.
What will your duties include?
- Act as first point of contact for CCL Executive Team and wider CCL leadership team, providing timely and business-focused advice on all legal matters, including:
- Strategic projects and transactions
- Regulatory (including CMA, CQC and GMC)
- Data protection
- Employment
- Corporate and charity governance
- Disputes (including patient complaints, inquests, pending/threatened/actual litigation) and general contractual matters.
What we need from you?
- Qualified lawyer in the UK with a strong academic background.
- License to practice law must be from England and Wales, or from a jurisdiction that permits the ability to practice in England and Wales, coupled with at least 5 years of actual experience practicing in England and Wales.
- Experience in healthcare regulatory law with broad generalist experience is essential.
- At least ten years’ post-qualification experience is essential.
- Strong legal skills are essential, including drafting, negotiation, executive-level communication, and project management.
- Previous in-house experience in a UK private healthcare setting is strongly preferred.
- Experience in UK employment and charity law is desirable.
