Role overview:
We are supporting our client to find a Senior WordPress Developer to assist with high-priority short-term projects. This is a fast-paced environment requiring a developer who can work reactively, communicate clearly, and proactively manage client-facing updates. You will be instrumental in contributing to a modern, component-based WordPress setup, supporting brochureware content and form-driven features while helping reduce the load on internal resources.
Responsibilities:
- Rapidly contribute to time-sensitive WordPress projects using modern development workflows.
- Maintain and enhance existing WordPress sites using custom themes and plugins.
- Work with a component-based architecture using the Sage Starter Theme by Roots.
- Use Blade templating for server-side rendering.
- Build and manage ACF Blocks for the Gutenberg editor.
- Manage custom forms (basic functionality, no complex integrations).
- Support API integration workflows between Athlon and private customer APIs.
- Proactively comment and update project tickets with summaries and progress to reduce communication pressure on internal team members.
- Deploy updates using existing CI/CD pipelines.
- Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and adapt quickly to shifting project priorities.
Essential Experience:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with WordPress development.
- Strong PHP 7/8 skills.
- Experience with Sage by Roots, or equivalent Laravel/Blade templating experience.
- Familiarity with modern frontend workflows (Webpack, component-driven architecture).
- Experience creating and consuming APIs.
- Proven experience with custom theme development and plugin building.
- Familiarity with Git (via CLI) and Linux command line.
- Comfortable working with ACF Blocks and the Gutenberg editor.
- Clear and proactive communication, especially in client-facing ticketing systems.
Desirable Experience:
- Laravel experience (particularly Blade templating).
- Experience working with multiple environments (Staging, Live).
