Are you an inspirational and collaborative leader? Are you keen to use your leadership skills to protect the organisation and our staff? As Corporate Security Senior Advisor, you’ll be working in a small team responsible for providing assurance that we’re addressing our security risks and improving our security culture. You will be a role model for security, promoting a positive culture and cultivating good behaviours. You'll contribute to protecting the organisation from security threats that could affect our people, data, information, or physical assets.

In this role you will:

  • Help the Corporate Security Manager to oversee and mitigate security risks
  • Provide leadership and direction on how we assess and manage security risks, including our retained security responsibilities
  • Work with risk owners across the organisation to ensure risks are understood, assessed, and adequately mitigated
  • Provide assurance to the Senior Responsible Officer (SRO) for security, EA Board, and Executive Directors
  • Work in partnership with Defra group Security to ensure we have security strategies, policies, and processes in place
  • Lead on delivering actions to improve our security culture including through training, communications, and engagement
  • Run governance meetings to oversee security decisions
  • Maintain networks with security professionals to stay up to date with the latest context

The team you will be part of is a small, welcoming team within the Corporate Management, Assurance, and Security team, focused on protecting and empowering the organisation to function effectively and be resilient. You will have access to the advice of professional security teams in Defra group Security and work with subject matter experts in the Environment Agency.

Experience/skills Required

The external security landscape is complex with new and evolving risks. Although you do not need to be a security professional, you will need the following skills and experience:

  • Appreciation of wider influences on the security of the organisation to enable continuous improvement in meeting changing demands
  • Proven leadership skills to achieve outcomes, promote partnership, influence, and inspire others
  • Ability to build effective partnerships with Defra and Environment Agency colleagues to jointly manage risks
  • Ability to work with senior personnel, manage multiple priorities, and juggle competing demands
  • Experience of inspiring culture change, stakeholder management, leading communications and engagement, and implementing business change solutions is beneficial

Everyone joining us is required to undertake training and participate in incident response duties when needed. This is a hybrid role; you will be based at your nearest location in England but will also work from home. Some national travel for meetings may be required.
