This is a 12-month Fixed Term contract due to external funding.

Location: Number One Riverside, Rochdale (3 days/week) and Manchester Town Hall extension (2 days/week).

Your Role: Greater Manchester’s public protection teams have secured continued funding to continue to build and develop Greater Manchester Business Compliance Support (www.gmbcs.co.uk). Its aim is to help businesses comply and thrive and will focus on the key regulatory areas of environmental health, trading standards and licensing. You will work alongside eight other new officers to provide support and guidance to businesses across Greater Manchester. Your role for Business Compliance Support will involve proactively contacting and providing a signposting service for new and existing businesses to help them navigate their compliance issues and questions. You will also have the opportunity to shadow and learn from existing experienced environmental health, trading standards and licensing officers within Rochdale Council’s public protection team.

About You: The ideal candidate will be passionate and excited about joining and continuing to shape our service and enthusiastic about keeping the public safe by helping businesses comply. You will be willing to bring and implement fresh ideas to the service and work alongside our business compliance trainee officers and more experienced colleagues in your local authority. You will be open to meeting people from a range of different backgrounds and visiting them in their businesses as well as speaking to them over the phone. You will therefore be expected to have good communication skills and an excellent telephone manner, with an eagerness to learn and develop on an individual and team basis.

About Us: Over the course of your contract and depending on your previous experience and qualifications, you’ll be provided with the time and opportunity to complete a range of tailored courses to help pave the way for your future career in regulatory compliance. You’ll work alongside our dedicated, experienced, and knowledgeable trading standards, environmental health, and licensing officers gaining valuable experience inspecting businesses, carrying out investigations, implementing and assisting with operational activities including underage sales and raids, and observing licensing hearings amongst many other varied and interesting duties. You will use your existing knowledge, and experience gained from speaking to our GM businesses to create your own mini-projects to help businesses navigate complex legislation and regulations, crucial for their growth.
