Summary of the role

The Financial Control & Reconciliation Utility ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial records within the organisation. The team processes payments, receipts, and distributions while identifying and resolving discrepancies to maintain reliable financial information, ensure proper reporting, and comply with regulations. This fixed-term contract role sits within the Reconciliations Team for the Life & Pensions business and supports key reconciliation activity including ledger balancing, daily sign-offs, weekly journals and adjustments, and monthly reconciliations. You'll work independently on ledger investigations, support operational teams, and contribute to continuous financial integrity.

What you’ll be doing

  • Perform end-to-end reconciliations for bank accounts, suspense accounts, and ledger entries
  • Balance ledgers daily and complete daily sign-offs before submitting reconciliations to IT
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in financial accounts and queries from operational teams
  • Complete weekly journal entries and monthly reconciliation processes
  • Ensure adherence to internal deadlines and reconciliation service levels
  • Collaborate with team members across Bristol and Edinburgh via hybrid working (minimum 2 office days per week)

What we’re looking for

  • 12 years’ experience in financial services, accountancy, or banking reconciliations
  • Ability to independently investigate and resolve large financial entries
  • Good working knowledge of MS Excel
  • Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, and organisational skills
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities
  • Familiarity with BaNCS or similar reconciliation/accounting systems is desirable
  • Experience working under deadlines in a fast-paced environment
