Salary: Around £80k base (negotiable) + bonuses and shares scheme

Overview

A highly respected construction consultancy is seeking an experienced Associate Quantity Surveyor on behalf of one of its key clients. This individual will be responsible for delivering high-level Quantity Surveying and Cost Management services on complex, multi-million-pound projects across sectors including residential, commercial, education, heritage, healthcare, and public sector.

This role is ideal for a candidate ready to take ownership of large-scale assignments, lead multidisciplinary teams, and work closely with client organisations to deliver results from inception through to completion.

Key Role Objectives

The successful candidate will:

  • Act as Associate Quantity Surveyor on major construction projects across various sectors.
  • Deliver a full range of pre- and post-contract Quantity Surveying services on complex projects.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of building construction projects and associated contracts.
  • Lead project teams and manage internal/external stakeholders on behalf of clients.
  • Coach and develop team members to consistently deliver service excellence.
  • Take full ownership of Quantity Surveying/Cost Management assignments.

Core Responsibilities

  • Support senior leadership in the delivery of Quantity Surveying and Cost Management services.
  • Oversee multiple projects and manage resources including Quantity Surveyors and Trainees/Graduates.
  • Manage project costs from early estimates to final accounts, ensuring value for money and adherence to quality standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory building regulations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Establishing client requirements and conducting feasibility studies.
  • Undertaking cost analysis for construction, refurbishment, or maintenance work.
  • Identifying and managing commercial risks.
  • Advising on procurement strategies.
  • Preparing tender and contract documentation (bills of quantities, etc.).
  • Reviewing tender returns and advising on contractor selection.
  • Allocating work to subcontractors and valuing completed work.
  • Performing risk and value management and cost control.
  • Providing progress reports and advising on contractual claims.
  • Negotiating and agreeing on final accounts.

Project Leadership

  • Deliver and own the cost management of construction projects up to £100 million.
  • Lead and mentor team members while promoting professional standards.
  • Provide site-based and office-based support to junior surveyors.
  • Organise project teams for optimal delivery while training them in quality assurance and internal standards.
  • Undertake ad hoc and special projects as assigned by senior leadership.

Training & Development

  • Deliver in-house training to colleagues on Quantity Surveying and Cost Management best practices.
  • Mentor selected individuals to support their development.
  • Undertake ongoing CPD in line with professional body requirements.
  • Maintain a valid CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card in line with policy.

General Duties

  • Execute all responsibilities with professionalism, honesty, and efficiency.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Contribute to continual service improvement and share knowledge across the business.
  • Support the wider business plan through high-quality delivery and potential involvement in business development activities.
  • Adhere to internal Quality Management Systems.

  • Fulfil all duties as outlined in the employment contract and staff handbook.
