Who are Cardo Group? Cardo Group is a family of companies delivering building maintenance services to local authorities, social housing providers, and their residents. Our multi-company group provides quality, value for money maintenance, compliance, and retrofit services across the south west, south east, and midlands. Future plans will see this develop into a national footprint.

Overview: You will be responsible for laying and maintaining floor coverings in residential properties. This role is essential to the upkeep of social housing, ensuring that the properties remain in a safe, clean, and liveable condition. The successful candidate will have a range of skills, including the ability to work with various floor materials such as carpet, vinyl, laminate, and tiling, and will assist in broader maintenance tasks as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Flooring Installation: Lay and install various types of flooring materials, including carpet, vinyl, tiles, linoleum, and laminate, according to project requirements. Prepare surfaces by cleaning, levelling, and applying adhesives or underlays. Ensure all flooring is installed securely and neatly, with attention to detail.
  • Maintenance & Repair: Carry out repairs to existing flooring, including patching, re-sealing, or replacing damaged sections. Conduct periodic inspections of floors in social housing units to identify and address potential issues, including wear and tear. Respond to maintenance requests for flooring-related issues and complete repairs within agreed timeframes.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Adhere to health and safety regulations while working on site, ensuring that all work is carried out in a safe and compliant manner. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety protocols to prevent accidents or injuries. Ensure the working area is clean and free from hazards, both during and after the installation/repair process.
  • Collaboration with Other Trades: Work alongside other tradespeople (e.g., plumbers, electricians, painters) as part of larger refurbishment or maintenance projects within social housing. Assist with other maintenance tasks as needed, such as general repairs or property upgrades, when not directly working on flooring.
  • Customer Service & Communication: Interact with tenants in a professional and respectful manner, ensuring minimal disruption during flooring installations or repairs. Address tenant concerns or queries about the flooring work being carried out and ensure their satisfaction with the completed job. Provide guidance to tenants on floor care and maintenance, as necessary.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of work completed, including materials used, time spent, and any issues encountered. Report any major issues or repairs required to the site supervisor or manager. Assist in managing inventory of flooring materials and supplies, ensuring that stock is replenished as needed.
  • Quality Control: Ensure all work meets the required standards for quality and durability, particularly for social housing where long-term usability and wear resistance are important. Inspect work completed by other trades or contractors to ensure high-quality results in line with project requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a floor layer, ideally within the social housing or residential property sector.
  • A multi-skilled background with experience in a range of flooring types (carpet, vinyl, tile, laminate, etc.).
  • Knowledge of floor preparation, adhesives, levelling compounds, and underlays.
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations and the ability to work safely and efficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant vocational qualification (e.g., NVQ, City & Guilds) in floor laying or a related trade.
  • Experience working in social housing or with public-sector clients.
  • Previous experience with general building maintenance tasks (e.g., painting, plumbing, carpentry).

Personal Attributes:

  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills and customer service-oriented approach.
  • Ability to work flexibly and adapt to different tasks as required by the project.
