As our Passive Fire Protection Consultant, your main focus is managing and delivering Passive Fire Protection projects through effective planning and execution. You'll ensure projects meet specifications, timelines, and budgets while acting as the fire safety expert within Pennington Choices, particularly in passive fire protection. You will also contribute to team growth by training new recruits and associates. Working closely with the Technical Project Manager, you'll ensure projects are efficiently planned, delivered, and closed, meeting the needs of clients, the business, and end users. Your role will be instrumental in ensuring the quality and effectiveness of our passive fire protection services. With the support of the wider organisation, you will be expected to continuously develop your skills and expertise, ensuring strong client confidence. Additionally, you'll play a crucial role in expanding our service offerings, staying aligned with the latest building safety regulations and guidance.
Role objectives
- Support the Operations Manager in driving the team's operational and commercial success.
- Manage fire door surveys, compartmentation, and measured surveys, while overseeing the Technical Support Team and subcontracted Associates.
Responsibilities include:
- Operational Performance – ensure the achievement of all agreed quality standards to support the delivery of key business objectives, service plan objectives, and contractual obligations with all clients.
- Commercial Performance – contribute to the achievement of all agreed financial performance targets (turnover, gross profit, and net profit) through the achievement of agreed productivity targets.
- Project Planning – contribute to the planning and development of projects, assisting the Senior Project Manager with gathering information required to prepare estimates and attending client meetings.
- Site Visits – carry out site visits to gather the information required to contribute to different phases of the individual projects.
- Interpreting Documentation – utilise various compliance/regulatory documents, such as Approved Document B, to act as an expert for clients, identifying areas of noncompliance and offering advice to achieve the required compliance.
- AutoCAD Activity – utilise AutoCAD to produce professional drawings, such as passive fire protection related drawings, to contribute to the passive fire protection projects.
- Project Management – contribute to the coordination and management of projects, keeping track and reporting project progress.
- Customer Relationship Management – foster positive, productive, and long-lasting relationships with your delegated client accounts, providing operational points of contact and advice on all aspects of building safety.
- Health & Safety – embed a strong health and safety culture within your projects through appropriate induction, Risk Assessments, and mobilisation briefings, ensuring adherence to our health and safety framework.
- Quality Assurance – participate in our robust auditing processes and instil a compliance culture with the Building Safety projects, undertaking quality assurance audits of the Technical Support Team and Associates.
- Training – complete tasks assigned by the Senior Project Manager, such as training recruits within our Passive Fire team.
Key skills and experience
- Holding a passive fire protection qualification, such as IFE Level 2/3 in Passive Fire Protection or the NOCN Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Associated Industrial Services Occupations - Passive Fire Protection.
- Experience of managing passive fire protection and fire safety projects, including compartmentation surveys and fire door inspections.
- Detailed knowledge of relevant guidance and regulations, such as Approved Document B, Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Fire Safety Act 2021, BS9999, and BS9991.
- Proficient use of AutoCAD and measured survey software.
- Experience of using digital management software including Bolster, Boris, and Safety Culture.
- Experience in implementing guidance regarding fire strategy drawings.
- Able to liaise effectively and professionally with all key stakeholders.
- A member, or have aspirations to become a member, of a recognised industry body, such as IFE, ASFP, RICS, or IFSM.
