Head Coach – FORT
About FORT
Fort opened in 2018 as P10 Fitness and then we went through a rebrand in November 2022 to become FORT. Since then, FORT has grown into a multifunctional facility that helps athletes grow across three main disciplines., CrossFit, Weightlifting and Powerlifting. Since 2022 the coaching team has grown to a team of 10 and our membership has grown by over 110%. FORT is known across London for its inclusive community competitions and events that run throughout the year such as FORT Fest, sanctioned Powerlifting competitions and HYROX simulations.
Position Summary
The Head Coach at FORT Gym is a dynamic and passionate leader responsible for overseeing all aspects of the coaching team and ensuring the highest quality of training and member experience. This role requires a strong understanding of CrossFit methodology, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a proven ability to motivate and inspire others. The role will work directly with the gym manager and manage the assistant gym lead as well as a team of coaches.
Key Responsibilities:
Coaching & Program Development:
- Program Oversight:
- Oversee the creation and implementation of all class programming, ensuring it is safe, effective, challenging, and engaging for all fitness levels.
- Regularly review and adjust programming to ensure it is progressive, addresses member needs, and aligns with FORT\’s training philosophy.
- Develop and implement specialised programs such as Gymnastics, HYROX SWEAT, and competition preparation.
- Coach Development:
- Conduct regular coach evaluations, providing constructive feedback on coaching technique, member interactions, and professional development.
- Organise and facilitate weekly/monthly in-house training sessions to upskill coaches on various topics (e.g., coaching cues, programming, nutrition, mobility).
- Encourage and support coach professional development by facilitating external training opportunities and workshops.
- Quality Control:
- Ensure all coaches adhere to FORT\’s coaching standards and safety protocols.
- Regularly observe classes to assess coach performance, identify areas for improvement, and provide ongoing support.
Team Leadership & Management:
- Team Building:
- Foster a positive and supportive team environment that encourages collaboration, communication, and professional growth.
- Recognise and celebrate coach achievements, both within the team and externally.
- Address team concerns and conflicts proactively and effectively.
- Hiring & Onboarding:
- Lead the recruitment and selection process for new coaches, ensuring they align with FORT\’s values and possess the necessary skills and qualifications.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive onboarding program for new hires, covering all aspects of FORT\’s operations, coaching standards, and safety protocols.
- Staff Scheduling & Coverage:
- Manage coach schedules to ensure adequate class coverage at all times.
- Implement and enforce a clear policy for staff coverage requests.
- Performance Management:
- Conduct bi-yearly performance reviews with all coaches, providing constructive feedback and setting development goals.
Member Experience:
- Member Engagement:
- Plan and execute engaging events and challenges to enhance the member experience and build community.
- Proactively address member questions and concerns, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
- Build strong relationships with members, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment.
- Actively promote FORT\’s services to potential members.
- Member Support:
- Provide personalised support and guidance to members on their fitness journeys, addressing individual goals and concerns.
- Encourage and support members in achieving their fitness goals.
Gym Operations:
- Health & Safety:
- Ensure the gym maintains a safe and clean environment by conducting regular safety inspections and implementing appropriate safety protocols and working with the assistant gym lead regularly.
- Organise and conduct in-house health and safety training for all staff.
- Ensure all staff maintains current certifications, insurance, and first aid/CPR credentials.
· Equipment & Maintenance:
- Work with the Gym Manager to identify and address equipment needs, ensuring the gym is well-maintained and equipped.
· Administrative Duties:
- Maintain accurate records of staff certifications, performance reviews, and other relevant information.
- Assist with the management of the gym\’s scheduling and booking systems.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of marketing and social media campaigns.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Head Coach or in a similar leadership role within the fitness industry.
- Certified CrossFit Level 2 Trainer (minimum) with additional certifications in relevant areas (e.g., Gymnastics, Weightlifting etc).
- Strong understanding of CrossFit methodology, programming principles, and exercise science.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Proven ability to motivate, inspire, and lead a team.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Passion for fitness and a commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
