Senior Structural Engineer - PM Consultancy - Glasgow

Role: Senior Structural Engineer Location: Glasgow City – Hybrid Client: PM Consultancy Sector: Residential About Our client is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer (SER Registered) with façade design and structural design experience, particularly on residential high-rise towers. In this role, youll lead the structural retrofit of existing towers, ensuring their safety, sustainability and compliance. Key Responsibilities Façade Retrofitting Leadership: Design and deliver structural solutions for upgrading existing residential tower façades to current standards (fire, wind, thermal, water). Structural Analysis: Perform rigorous analysis (finite element modelling, load/resistance calculations) of connections, anchors and envelope systems. Project Coordination: Lead multi-disciplinary teams (façade specialists, M&E, architects), ensuring cohesive interfacing and program adherence. Technical Documentation: Prepare detailed structural drawings, specifications, design calculations and design reports. Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Act as technical lead in meetings, workshops, and site visits, maintaining client/stakeholder confidence and relationship. SER Compliance: Act as the Responsible Engineer, ensuring statutory compliance and all relevant design documentation are SER-signed, per regulatory requirements. Mentoring & Assurance: Guide junior engineers and technicians through design tasks, participate in quality assurance and peer review processes. Requirements Professional Registration: Chartered with SER (Structural Engineering Register), strong understanding of compliance implications. Façade/Envelope Expertise: Substantial demonstrable experience (ideally 5 years ) in structural and façade design, especially retrofit of high-rise residential towers. Proficient with engineering tools (FEM software, AutoCAD/Revit, structural analysis tools) Familiarity with UK/Scotland standards (Eurocodes, UK NA) Regulatory Knowledge: Strong grasp of relevant building regulations (fire safety, thermal performance, wind action) and façade-specific compliance (e.g., EWS, aluminium systems).
