Major Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and overhaul of rail cars and systems
  • Fabricate and install seats, work on interior/exterior trim, conduct outbound inspections, and install trucks and vestibules
  • Work on train car underframe (de-trucking, re-trucking), coupler assembly/disassembly, and brake assembly/disassembly
  • Measure product dimensions using standard and metric rulers
  • Follow established Standard Work Instructions for tasks and safety procedures
  • Participate in problem-solving and continuous improvement efforts
  • Perform in-process quality inspections and accurately fill out production paperwork
  • Conduct daily inspections of vehicles and test air brake/door seals
  • Install emergency and fixed windows, body & side doors, and air brake valves/hoses
  • Work on various mechanical components, including seats, windows, and emergency equipment

Mechanic Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (Technical certification is a plus)
  • Knowledge of HAZCOM, lock out/tag out, and cutting equipment
  • Experience working in a production or mechanical environment
  • Strong understanding of measurements, basic math, and proficiency with both standard and metric rulers
  • Experience with data entry and basic computer skills
  • Ability to stand for long periods, twist, bend, reach, and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Experience with drilling, tapping holes, and removing broken bolts/screws
  • Good hand-eye coordination and the ability to work under pressure
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and capable of multitasking in a fast-paced environment
