As a member of our Credits, Incentives and Methods (CIM) group, you will be responsible for providing tax consulting and advisory services around revenue recognition, expense, capitalization, cost recovery, and inventory accounting—based on regulatory change, tax planning, liquidity, or transaction preparation. These services include accounting method reviews, filing of accounting method or period changes, participating in M&A structuring and diligence, writing technical advice memorandums, researching technical filing positions, and interacting with internal tax professionals and external stakeholders.
The accounting methods and periods practice is seeking an experienced candidate for a manager-level position. This role provides technical support for tax-saving and risk mitigation, collaborates with industry-specific teams nationwide and globally to develop strategies around emerging issues, and trains RSM professionals on accounting methods.
The ideal candidate will possess strong tax technical skills, training and development abilities, project management expertise, and collaborative skills across geographies and experience levels.
Key responsibilities include:
- Research, address, and consult on technical issues related to revenue and cost recognition, inventory, capitalization, and cost recovery.
- Monitor guidance from the IRS/Department of the Treasury and new legislation relevant to tax accounting.
- Lead the development of thought leadership and technical training initiatives.
- Partner with other RSM professionals to identify planning opportunities and strategies for clients.
- Collaborate with tax and industry leaders to identify emerging technical issues.
- Review Form 3115 – Application for Change in Accounting Method for quality assurance.
Qualifications:
- J.D./Tax LL.M. or CPA certification.
- Excellent research and writing skills.
- Proven ability to develop and implement policies and procedures.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve issues efficiently; well-organized with management skills.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in tax accounting methods and periods.
