Skanska is launching a Civil Engineering Apprenticeship starting September 2025 in Penrith, Cumbria. This program offers a unique opportunity to earn a degree while gaining practical experience on a bridge replacement project supporting the West Coast Mainline over the M6 Motorway.

Key Responsibilities

  • Survey the site and set out for construction teams
  • Check the quality of construction work
  • Produce permits such as permits to excavate or vegetation clearance permits
  • Manage daily site activities and attend shift briefings
  • Develop understanding of health, safety, and environmental standards in civil engineering

Candidate Requirements

  • 3 A-levels at grades A-C, preferably in Maths and a Physical Science, or equivalent Level 3 qualification
  • 5 GCSEs at grades 5-9 including Maths, English, and Science
  • Enthusiasm for teamwork and learning

Qualifications and Training

You will study towards a Degree in Civil Engineering at a local university, with support to achieve the Incorporated Civil Engineer (IEng MICE) professional qualification through Skanska’s ICE-accredited training agreement.
