Reports to: Lead Supportability Engineer (functionally), Project Lead (on a project basis)

Role Overview: The role is within a matrix organization, reporting functionally to the Lead Supportability Engineer and on a project basis to the relevant Project Lead. The EW Supportability Engineering group consists of approximately 20 ILS engineers, with a mix of specialist and general ILS experience. This position is ideal for a Technical Author who can create publications to military specifications and is eager to work on a variety of products in different stages of their life cycle.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Technical Documentation Preparation & Updates: Produce and update company-standard publications and templates to support the delivery of Leonardo equipment and associated support equipment. Create and update PDF publications to meet applicable military standards (AVP70, AESP, BRs, and Technical Orders). Draft Modification Leaflets and Aircrew/User Guides. Create publications to S1000D standards, using a CSDB to control and create data modules. Manage data modules through their lifecycle and publish them to IETP and PDF formats.
  • Content Management & Strategy Development: Develop strategy for using Large Language Models (LLMs) for content generation, editing, and proofreading of technical Operation and Maintenance publications. Manage technical publications through their review cycle using the company’s PDM tool.
  • Supportability & Engineering: Assist in maintainability appraisals and demonstrations with the Supportability Engineering and project engineers. NATO Codification of Leonardo products using the UKNCB CSIS tool. Attend Workshare Partner ILS meetings and report progress to Integrated Project Teams (IPTs). Raise concerns/issues affecting ILS activities to relevant functional teams/IPT meetings.
  • Process & Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve the supportability of in-service equipment. Participate in Design Reviews as required.

Key Experience & Skills:

  • Extensive experience in creating technical publications, both paper and electronic, with minimal support.
  • Proficiency in Simplified Technical English (STE) and structured authoring methodologies.
  • Experience with ILS programs in all stages of the life cycle, in accordance with Def Stan 00-600 and other national standards.
  • Ability to extract relevant contract requirements and advise on tailoring ILS work packages.
  • Proficiency with tools such as Raytheon Eagle Publishing Solution, Raytheon Eagle LSAR, Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, Adobe Acrobat, Paint Shop Pro.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with IT tools like Provisioning Manager, ISODraw, OPUS, SIMLOX, CSIS (UKNCB), Arbortext, Windchill, Reliability Prediction, Favoweb, SAP.
  • Knowledge of avionics equipment and understanding of Lifecycle Cost Modelling, LORA, and other ILS tasks.

Qualifications:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Electronics Engineering, Avionics Engineering, or a relevant subject.

Intrinsic Factors:

  • Willingness to travel to sites in the UK and occasionally abroad, including overnight stays.
  • Flexibility to work flexible hours to meet deadlines.
