What are we looking for?

Essential:

• At least 3 years of professional experience in copywriting, journalism, public relations, social media marketing, volunteer management, or team coordination
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Highly organized and proactive, with the ability to manage multiple projects remotely
• Experience working with remote teams and using digital collaboration tools
• A strategic thinker capable of balancing daily operations with long-term messaging goals

Desirable:

• Experience mentoring or coaching junior team members or volunteers
• Understanding of grassroots or movement-based communications
• Willingness to undertake free online training where relevant

What will you be doing?

Role Description:

We are seeking experienced communications professionals to co-lead media and messaging across XR North, a grassroots, volunteer-led regional network focused on climate awareness and community action. As Media & Messaging Coordinator, you\’ll play a strategic role in managing our regional communication efforts, shaping messaging across multiple platforms, supporting local teams, and ensuring consistency and professionalism in our engagement efforts. This role offers a chance to apply your expertise in a mission-driven, non-profit environment while mentoring volunteers and amplifying vital community action.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee and coordinate regional communications strategy across PR, social media, and internal messaging
• Serve as a central point of contact for media inquiries, messaging requests, and campaign communications
• Support, guide, and mentor local media volunteers across the North
• Collaborate with social media editors and press liaisons to ensure consistent tone, scheduling, and campaign effectiveness
• Review and approve key content to maintain professional standards across platforms (X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram)
• Monitor and manage an internal media inbox, ensuring timely responses
• Liaise with newsletter and website editors to ensure alignment across all channels
• Help recruit skilled communications volunteers as needed
