Function Description: American Express is looking for energetic, high-performing and highly skilled Engineers to help shape our technology and product roadmap. Our Software Engineers not only understand how technology works, but how that technology intersects with the people who count on it every day. Today, innovative ideas, insight and new points of view are at the core of how we create a more powerful experience for our customers and colleagues, with data and batch/real-time analytical solutions using ground-breaking technologies to deliver innovative products across multiple business units.
How will you make an impact in this role? This Engineering role is based in our Global Risk and Compliance Technology organization and will have a keen focus on platform modernization, bringing to life the latest technology stacks to support the ongoing needs of the business as well as compliance against global regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Designs, develop, debugs, evaluates, modifies, deploys and documents software and systems that meet the needs of customer-facing applications, business applications, and/or internal end user applications.
- Analyze requirements/user stories to appropriately support design activities.
- Function as an active member of an agile team through consistent development practices (tools, common components, and documentation).
- Produce software builds from software source code.
- Conduct integration tests as defined in the test specifications, including event logging and reporting of results.
- Perform unit and assembly testing of software components including the design, implementation, evaluation, and execution of test scripts.
- Conduct code reviews and tests of automated build scripts.
- Debug software components, identifies, fixes and verifies remediation of code defects.
- Find opportunities to adopt innovative technologies.
- Provides continuous support for ongoing production application availability.
- Write instructions to guide computer operators during production runs.
- Work with product owners to prioritize features for ongoing sprints and manage a list of requirements based on industry trends, new technologies, known defects, and issues.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 7+ years of software development experience in a professional environment and/or comparable experience.
- Familiar with Agile or other rapid application development methods.
- Hands-on industry experience in designing and coding applications using C#, ASP .NET, .NET Core, .NET framework, REST, SQL and other related Microsoft technologies.
- Hands-on expertise with application design, software development and automated testing.
- Experience with distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, and relational databases.
- Knowledge of Kafka, React JS, Couchbase, MongoDB and other innovative and emergent technologies preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with object-oriented design and coding with a variety of languages.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in computer science, computer science engineering, or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
