The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing the full spectrum of accounting functions within the organization. This role ensures the integrity and accuracy of financial reporting and compliance with established accounting principles, practices and procedures. The senior accountant develops, implements and maintains internal controls, as well as accounting systems that align with company goals and regulatory requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Record month-end journal entries and update related schedules for an accurate and timely general ledger close.
- Analyze monthly general ledger activity, make adjustments where necessary and provide feedback to management.
- Maintain and reconcile the ledger of fixed assets, prepaid expenses and other accounts.
- Update the daily cash balance and forecast weekly cash requirements.
- Work with vendors and accounts payable to resolve discrepancies.
- Produce weekly and monthly metrics reports for management.
- Reconcile monthly bank statements.
- Assist in producing the year-end workpapers for the annual review and tax return preparations.
- Assist in the compilation of the annual operating budget.
- Oversee the accounting functions of affiliated property holding companies.
- File state sales/use tax and personal property tax returns. Issue 1099's.
- Special projects as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)
- 4-year degree in accounting.
- Self-directed and possess initiative to complete projects.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Excellent problem solving skills and ability to make sound decisions.
- Ability to communicate within all levels of the organization.
- Must be organized and disciplined to maintain a schedule.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with cost accounting and ERP systems, preferably SAP.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Minimum of five years related experience.
