Hybrid Working Pattern

Help us create a better future, quicker. The Asset Strategy team is the strategic asset management function of the transmission network. We set the long-term asset management strategies, asset policies and intervention plans for the transmission assets. Our team provides leadership and direction in asset risk modelling and management, engaging with the operational and delivery businesses to set priorities and adapt to evolving network needs. We lead engagement with the regulator and other government bodies to ensure the efficient management of network assets and delivery of outputs.

Our engineers display technical leadership by participating in industry working groups and other collaborative activities as required, guiding and supporting innovation projects, developing and testing new tools and methods to improve business capability and efficiency, and sharing knowledge in matters relating to asset performance and risk.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Development of strategic long-term asset risk plans for the Transmission network and effective communication with the transmission licence of the ongoing 5 year order book – translating and managing the ongoing transmission business plan.
  • Ongoing development of maintenance strategies for Transmission civil assets.
  • Development of condition assessment strategies for civil assets ensuring asset condition is fully understood to inform future investment strategies, and feeds asset risk systems with appropriate data.
  • Ensure future investment strategy is clear and fully justified in line with the requirements for Ofgem reporting.
  • Day-to-day management of a network and asset assurance framework to demonstrate the fitness for purpose and performance expectations of the asset base.
  • Management of asset risk and liaison with other industry parties on the Transmission system through defining the asset management strategies and plans in a cost-effective manner.
  • Provide specialist engineering support across SPEN.
  • Participate in engagement on behalf of SPEN with key industry stakeholders on the technical development of asset risk management, ensuring that SPEN’s position is well understood and viewed favourably.
  • Able to organise and plan your own workload across multiple simultaneous activities to align with deadlines and competing pressures from various parties.

What you’ll bring:

  • Knowledge and experience of Transmission system assets: construction, operations, working practices and systems.
  • Specialist knowledge of the following transmission assets: Civil Structures, including buildings, roads support structures both concrete and metallic and bunding.
  • Working knowledge and experience of Industry codes and standards.
  • Industry structure and the separate roles of Electricity System Operator (ESO), Transmission Owner (TO), Distribution Network Operator (DNO), etc.
  • Transmission network design principles.
  • Regulatory frameworks impacting on SPEN.
  • Awareness of commercial issues related to distribution and transmission networks.
  • Financial policies and procedures.
  • SPEN, ScottishPower and Iberdrola strategic aims and targets.
  • International activities in power systems operations.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to write clear reports and present complex technical matters to a non-technical audience.
  • Track record of excellent customer service and an ability to meet/exceed customer expectations.
  • Chartered membership of the IET or equivalent or working towards this.
