Our client is a highly successful FMCG manufacturer based in North Wales. The business is well established and highly successful, growing to £100m+ turnover while also undertaking large capital projects to enhance site infrastructure, drive operational performance and increase production capacity. The organisation has a reputation for quality, innovation, and sustainable practices, supplying major retailers, wholesalers, and international markets. Following a period of exceptional growth and due to an impending retirement, we are now helping them to recruit a commercially astute and strategically minded Finance Director (FD) to join the executive team and help drive the next phase of expansion.
The incoming Finance Director will be a strategic, self-driven finance leader with exceptional communication skills and attention to detail. As FD, you will be a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for shaping and executing the financial strategy of the business. You will bring strong leadership to the finance function, support strategic decision-making, and ensure robust financial governance, risk management, and performance monitoring. You will play a pivotal role in driving profitability, supporting commercial initiatives, and preparing the business for further growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute financial strategies to support business objectives, including revenue growth, cost control, and capital efficiency.
- Partner with the CEO and senior team on strategic initiatives, such as site and business improvement projects, market expansion, and cost optimisation programmes.
- Provide financial insight and challenge to ensure commercial decisions are based on sound financial analysis.
- Develop and control the company’s annual operating budget to ensure that all financial targets are met, and financial and statutory regulations complied with.
- Provide financial advice and guidance to the company’s managers and staff to enable them to achieve their objectives.
- Oversee the preparation of the company’s financial accounts to ensure that these are presented accurately and on time.
- Develop and maintain all necessary controls, systems, policies and procedures to ensure effective and efficient financial management within the company.
- Carry out all necessary actions to ensure that the company meets its financial and legal obligations.
- Direct and control finance/IT staff to ensure that they are appropriately motivated and developed, so that they carry out their responsibilities to the required standard.
- Lead and develop a small high-performance finance/IT team across financial control, reporting, FP&A, and procurement (where applicable).
- Instil a culture of continuous improvement and commercial thinking within the function.
- Contribute as a visible and active member of the executive team, helping shape company culture and values.
Skills and Experience Required
- A qualified accountant, ideally ACA/ACCA/CIMA with at least 5 – 10+ years’ experience as CFO/FD within a comparably sized FMCG manufacturing business.
- Extensive knowledge of process/manufacturing industry within a relevant field.
- Extensive senior level accountancy and finance management experience.
- Entrepreneurial, strategic and a dynamic thinker.
- Ability to ensure the finance function is fully integrated into the operational functions of the business.
- Fully conversant in financial reporting.
- Proven track record in managing a finance department of £30m+ t/o and assisting the business to grow through robust analysis.
- Proven track record in managing challenging and complex situations. Ability to consider and consolidate and show flexibility.
- Ability to understand treasury function, liaise with funding partners and anticipate potential shortfalls. Experience in various funding structures would be an advantage.
- Experience in implementation of ERP systems.
