This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, enthusiastic senior nurse with a wealth of experience working within an acute or critical care environment to provide strong leadership within the Critical Care Directorate Team at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust.

Our ICU comprises of up to 10 beds, allowing flexible use for level 3 and level 2 care. We serve a diverse rural and semi-rural population and provide a service for the acutely unwell, high dependency general medical and surgical patients (both elective and acute).

We would like a committed and forward thinking individual who will have an in-depth knowledge of the delivery of safe, high quality healthcare within the critical care environment; supporting and driving quality improvements and leading on the deteriorating patient agenda. The successful candidate will hold a Critical Care Course Qualification.

You will work closely with operational colleagues and will be visible and accessible, acting as a role model, providing inspirational leadership and professional nursing to the Intensive Care Unit, Critical Care Outreach Team and to the wider in-patient services.

You will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective use of resources in delivering high quality patient centred care and you will support frontline staff in order to drive forwards the professional nursing agenda. You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to demonstrate effective management skills.

The post holder is responsible for the delivery of evidence-based clinical standards, ensuring high quality care, and providing effective leadership and management of all nursing staff within the Critical Care Service including the ICU and CCOT. They will work as part of a clinical leadership team consisting of clinical directors, patient service managers and matron colleagues.

The post holder is responsible to a DDON and will work closely with senior nurses, nurses, and colleagues within the multi-disciplinary team in order to deliver and develop high quality, safe clinical services within budget. Under the leadership of the DDON, the post holder will contribute to the delivery of key national targets in accordance with the Trust’s performance management framework.

The post holder will be highly visible in their clinical areas to lead the development of clinical standards and nursing practice, new nursing roles and advanced practice in line with the delivery and redesign of critical care and hospital services. In pursuing these duties, the post holder will ensure compliance with the NHS Constitution and be familiar with the Critical Care Standards (GPICS2/DO5) and NHS England Guidance ‘Understanding the new NHS’.
