Role Overview: We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Unified Communications Consultant to lead and deliver a full discovery and transformation report for the migration of an enterprise Avaya on-premise telephony environment to Microsoft Teams Voice. The successful candidate will produce a high-fidelity consulting report akin in structure and depth to a network SASE transformation plan, detailing current-state architecture, Teams deployment flavours, migration stages, risk and commercial considerations, and post-migration support strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead discovery workshops with client stakeholders across IT, Network, Telephony, and Security domains.
- Conduct comprehensive assessment of the existing Avaya on-premise telephony architecture, including PBXs, call routing, SBCs, integrations (e.g. call recording, CRM, contact centres), and trunking (SIP/ISDN).
- Map the current-state to the target Microsoft Teams architecture using Direct Routing, Operator Connect, and Microsoft Calling Plans.
- Document and evaluate the pros, cons, and use cases for each Teams Voice deployment option relevant to the customer.
- Identify dependencies, gaps, risks, and organisational readiness for cloud telephony adoption.
- Develop a detailed, staged migration strategy including timelines, cost models, and technical migration steps.
- Build a report document that includes:
- Executive summary and transformation benefits
- Key recommendations
- Migration stages with associated risks, commercial impact, and architecture evolution
- Integration with call recording, compliance tools, and legacy services
- Commercial model with ROI forecast
- Appendices with diagrams, BOM, capacity planning, vendor comparisons, and relevant Visio/Excel artifacts
Essential Experience:
- Proven track record of delivering transformation/migration strategies from legacy PBX to Microsoft Teams Voice at enterprise scale.
- Deep knowledge of Avaya systems (Aura, IP Office, CM, etc.) and telephony infrastructure (SBCs, SIP trunks, gateways).
- Expertise across Microsoft Teams Voice ecosystem: Operator Connect, Direct Routing, Microsoft Calling Plans, Teams Phone System.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and integrations (e.g., PCI-DSS, MiFID II, call recording, CRM, etc.)
- Experience in producing customer-facing consulting artefacts with a high standard of technical depth and executive relevance.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Teams Voice Engineer Expert (MS-720 or equivalent)
- Avaya certifications (ACSS, ACIS) or similar vendor credentials
- Experience with compliance voice recording platforms (e.g., NICE, Verint, ASC, RedBox)
- Familiarity with managed service transitions or service design frameworks (e.g., ITIL, TOGAF)
