We are looking for a dedicated Lab Technician to join our Veterinary Laboratory based just outside Newbury. The position involves all aspects of a multidisciplinary laboratory analysing various animal medical samples, using the latest technologies and techniques to ensure accurate results.
Responsibilities
- Assist with routine procedures including daily/weekly calibrations, quality control, and start-up/shut-down of equipment.
- Perform laboratory tests accurately and efficiently in key diagnostic areas such as haematology, clinical chemistry, endocrinology, microbiology, serology, and molecular diagnostics.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Maintain equipment, manage stock levels of consumables, and keep the laboratory clean and organized.
- Coordinate with the laboratory team to ensure adequate staffing.
- Adhere to good laboratory practices.
- Perform additional duties as required, including new or different tests.

About You
The ideal candidate will have a background in bio-veterinary or veterinary science, be capable of working independently and as part of a team, and demonstrate strong attention to detail.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Bioveterinary Science, Veterinary Science, or a related field.
- Experience in a veterinary laboratory or similar environment.
- Proficiency in laboratory techniques such as haematology, biochemistry, molecular diagnostics, and cytology.
- Experience in haematology, PCR, or microbiology is an advantage.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Passion for animal welfare and healthcare.
Shift Pattern
This is a full-time role of 35 hours per week, with shifts that may include occasional Saturdays and bank holidays.
