We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse to come and work within Cancer services supporting the delivery of cutting edge research therapies. This post will involve working closely with the clinical research team to understand the needs and requirements of each trial, providing education to colleagues within Cancer services and ensuring all research tasks related to the administration of trial drugs are completed to a high standard.
When not delivering research treatments, the post will help provide a high standard of care to non-trial Cancer patients while supporting the safe administration of anticancer and supportive treatments within South Devon Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills specifically caring for patients with a cancer diagnosis within a research setting, will be required to inform and educate patients on the prescribed treatment and its side effects and support patients and their carers on all aspects of their care.
You will also develop relationships with both the clinical trials team and the sponsors/companies that design the clinical trials to ensure trial SACT is administered to the highest standard. To provide leadership and expert knowledge to the team, especially with regards to Oncology Clinical Trials. You will be part of the ward/unit management team responsible for the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of patient care under the guidance of the ward and unit managers.
You will be working closely with other professional colleagues to ensure that consistently high standards and quality of care for patients are maintained and that the patient’s needs are met. You will gain an understanding of the physiological, psycho-social, spiritual and cultural needs of the patients and their carers and to develop a broad spectrum of clinical proficiency.
To develop a positive and realistic and supportive attitude to patients and their families to ensure their needs are met. To provide clinical advice, training, education and support to patients, relatives and other professional colleagues related to SACT. To promote a safe clinical environment for all patients, their carers, visitors and staff. To comply with the Trust’s values and expected behaviours.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and competent SACT trained nurse who has an interest in working with the Oncology Clinical Trials team to help administer Research protocols to our Oncology patients. This would be within the Day Unit setting, working 4 days per week (7.5 hours per day) Tuesday to Friday. You would be part of the team of nurses, Assistant practitioners and Health Care Support Workers on a busy Haematology/Oncology Day Unit.
This is an exciting new role as a clinical research nurse, providing expertise with regards to Clinical Trials as well as practical SACT administration skills.
