Are you a U.S. culture junkie? Do you thrive on both the ‘White Lotus’ memes and MAGA meltdowns? The Daily Beast is growing its global team to deliver breaking news around the clock—and we’re looking for journalists with a grasp of the D.C. chaos as well as the streaming wars, Instagram and Bravo TV. Our London office is expanding, and we’re looking for a reporter who can be first to breaking entertainment news, identify viral cultural moments, and write with the flair of our Obsessed section.
The ideal candidate is an all-rounder who is on top of U.S. politics, media and pop culture. You have a deep understanding of American culture, preferably having lived in the U.S., or a track record of working for American publications. We are recruiting a full-time reporter, Monday-Friday. However, some weekend shifts and flexibility may be required. This is a permanent role in a contractor position. You must be based outside of the U.S. to apply. You should live in London or a nearby time zone.
Key Responsibilities
- Pitch stories that matter to our audience and write intelligent, exciting copy with a punchy attitude that separates us from other outlets.
- Collaborate with editors and other reporters to ensure comprehensive coverage and bring fresh ideas and angles that can further a story.
- Identify the cultural-political crossover moments that will send Trumpland into meltdown or punch through to mainstream America.
- Produce clean, concise and accurate copy in a breaking news environment that requires a fast pace and can-do attitude.
- Be able to locate original sources for stories and be comfortable making calls, creating sources and conducting interviews if necessary.
- Be at home picking up new CMS, photo and video-editing software and other systems to improve the reader experience.
- Be comfortable writing across a variety of topics including entertainment, music, fashion, media and U.S. news.
- Identify news outlets worthy of checking for scoops on shift.
- An understanding of the Daily Beast’s voice and dynamic tone.
Don’t meet every single requirement listed here? We are dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive workplace, so if you’re interested in joining the Beast but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with this job description, we encourage you to give it a shot all the same. It might turn out that you’re just the right candidate for this or other roles.
We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
