Fintech Search are excited to be retained search partner for a rare and high-impact opportunity to lead the legal and compliance strategy of a fast-growing, European payments leader. With ambitious global growth plans, this role offers the chance to build, shape, and lead a future-ready risk and compliance framework across multiple European jurisdictions.
You will work directly with the CEO and Executive Leadership to oversee compliance across a number of European regions, while serving as the group-level authority on all legal and regulatory matters. The business is entering an exciting phase of transformation and modernisation, moving from a decentralised compliance model to a centralised, best-in-class operation with scalable systems and processes. This is not a "steady state" role. It is a high-profile leadership position for someone who thrives on complexity, autonomy, and the chance to deliver meaningful impact.
Key responsibilities:- Serve as the senior-most legal and compliance figure across the group, reporting directly to the CEO.
- Lead regulatory oversight across multiple jurisdictions.
- Design and implement a scalable, modern legal and compliance function to support strategic growth.
- Manage and mentor senior compliance leaders and operational risk teams.
- Oversee group-wide licensing, policy governance, regulatory engagement, and horizon scanning.
- Evaluate and lead a wider compliance buildout.
- Deep payments sector expertise, preferably within complex multi-jurisdictional environments.
- Significant leadership experience across both legal and compliance disciplines.
