About the Role

The person we support is a 24-year-old Male who has been diagnosed with Autism, Learning disabilities and Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome. He has a great sense of humour and infectious smile and enjoys meeting and interacting with different people. He can be very loud when he is happy and can be very affectionate. Sam has many interests and hobbies such as swimming, bouncing on trampolines and using the soft play. He loves animals, especially horses, cows and donkeys and loves to feed them. Sam thoroughly enjoys going out and about with his team and likes to go for walks with his team as well. This is a great opportunity for them to get to know each other. He enjoys cooking, preferably when he doesn’t have to wait too long to try his creation, and loves music, singing, drumming and music therapy. Sam spends time in his home doing arts and crafts, painting and colouring and relaxing in front of the TV and specifically likes Fun Song Factory, Thomas the Tank, Noddy and other children’s classics. He uses key words and phrases from programmes to communicate and has an understanding of Makaton, although he won’t respond using Makaton all of the time, but for key words that he understands he will use this. He loves intensive interaction and likes head tickles and deep pressure as well as hand massage and foot spa, however this has to be on his own terms, and he will initiate this with you. It is important for Sam to be supported by confident, happy, fun, smiley individuals that can set clear boundaries so that he feels safe. Transitions can be difficult for Sam, and he uses a visual schedule to help him understand his day and so he knows what is happening. He needs team members who aren’t afraid to have fun and be silly. Experience of Autism and Learning Disabilities are required and whilst experience of Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (Epilepsy) is desirable, training will be provided.
