About the Team: The VAT practice spans the entire UK - from Inverness to Bournemouth - serving an incredibly diverse client portfolio. They're a collaborative team of thirteen professionals (1 Partner, 3 Directors, 3 Senior Managers, 2 Managers, 1 Assistant Manager, and 3 Trainees) who work closely with accounting, audit, and private wealth teams to deliver exceptional integrated solutions. They encourage sector specialization while maintaining a unified approach - no silos, just collaborative excellence.
What You'll Do
- Client Advisory Excellence: Advise clients on all aspects of VAT including HMRC dispute resolution, transaction/supply chain treatment, and complex liability matters. Deliver exceptional client service through face-to-face meetings, virtual consultations, and expert written correspondence. Maintain outstanding technical standards with commercial focus on achieving client objectives.
- Technical Leadership & Development: Review and sign off complex VAT returns prepared for clients. Active involvement in managing and developing our national VAT team. Contribute to National Practice Groups, providing specialist VAT input across sectors.
- Business Growth & Thought Leadership: Identify and develop new business opportunities with existing and prospective clients. Take responsibility for marketing projects and business development initiatives. Speak at seminars and produce high-quality thought leadership content. Manage client engagements from initial scoping through to final delivery and billing.
The Individual
- Technical Expertise: Extensive VAT experience across multiple sectors with excellent understanding of UK domestic and cross-border transactions. Land and property VAT knowledge would be particularly advantageous. Strong grasp of VAT principles with ability to navigate complex liability matters.
- Commercial Acumen: Commercial and practical outlook when delivering advice. Proven ability to identify and develop new business opportunities. Experience managing complete client engagements including scoping, delivery, and billing.
- Client Relationship Skills: Exceptional client service standards and strong client handling abilities. Personable approach with ability to explain complex VAT issues to non-specialists. Experience dealing with diverse stakeholders including lawyers, land agents, and banks. Comfortable working with both internal colleagues and external professionals.
- Leadership & Development: Demonstrated enthusiasm for selling services to existing and prospective clients. Willingness to contribute to thought leadership and speak at industry events. Motivation to be part of growing and developing our VAT practice.
