The predicted salary is between 19400 - 19400 £ per year.

To collect blood samples from patients, including those that are terminally ill, confused, agitated and mentally ill. Understand the anatomy and physiology of the vein and surrounding tissue including major arteries and nerves. To be familiar with and understand the full range of Pathology blood tests and their required sample tubes and post phlebotomy transport requirements. Using technical equipment to safely draw blood from patients. Explaining the process of drawing blood clearly to a patient. Reassuring and calming patients who might be nervous or scared of the procedure. Applying dressings to the wound created by drawing blood. Registering the blood and storing it in the correct environment. Sending blood samples to testing laboratories. Answering patient questions regarding collection techniques and offering additional resources on the collection process, if the patient requests them.

Phlebotomists have a key role within the Hospital. As a Phlebotomist you will be trained in meeting patients and collecting important blood samples as part of their care at the main RDUH Exeter site. Previous Phlebotomy experience, although desirable, is not essential as full training and support will be given. More importantly, we are looking for people who can demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and can use tact and consideration when dealing with patients. The service relies on using a computerised ordering and collection system therefore candidates should be familiar with the use of IT systems at home or in previous employment. Applicants must also be able to work on a roster including some Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays.

Working Pattern: 20 hours per week substantive post.

Pay: The salary advertised for this position reflects the Agenda for Change 2025/6 rates, inclusive of a 3.6% pay award which will be implemented later this year. If you join before the implementation date, the pay award will be backdated to your start date. Until then, remuneration will be based on the 2024/5 pay bandings.
