Sentara is currently hiring a Patient Care Technician to work on the Intensive Care Unit at Sentara Leigh Hospital located in Norfolk, VA.
Hours/Shift: Full-time, dayshift, 6am to 6pm
Department/Position Overview: We are looking for an experienced nursing assistant with compassion and great communication skills to work in this fast-paced environment with our most critical patients. Work alongside our experienced nursing care partners and RNs to perform intense patient care. Excellent customer service skills are needed to work closely with patients and their family members. We encourage all interviewed applicants to shadow our unit to see firsthand how rewarding this position can be.
Role Details: Patient Care Technicians are unlicensed staff members who work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to implement delegated aspects of nursing care. Responsibilities include providing patient care, supporting admissions and discharges, and ensuring patient safety. Observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report any changes to the nurse.
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Certification/Licensure: American Heart Association BLS Certification required within 90 days of hire. Minimum requirements include one of the following: Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, Successful completion of CNA, NCMA, NCPCT, US Navy Hospital Corps School, Emergency Services (EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT, Paramedic), or Current student enrolled in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) with at least one semester completed in RN, LPN, RT, or PT, or Recent work experience within the last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant.
Experience: One year of healthcare experience preferred.
