The Financial Reporting Accountant plays a pivotal role in ensuring the on-time reporting of high quality financial data. The individual will be accountable for the accurate reporting of consolidated financial data for allocated business units, and for preparing and analysing consolidated information for monthly and quarterly reporting. They will ensure that data is presented accurately and that any accounting issues are identified, understood and resolved on a timely basis through detailed planning and process management. In this role, you will provide insightful analysis and commentary for senior management. It is therefore vital to form strong working relationships with senior stakeholders and finance teams across the business. In addition, the individual will take responsibility for the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives in financial reporting and for liaising with external auditors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret and cascade financial accounting/reporting policies, standards, procedures and timetables.
  • Ensure financial transactions and reporting are completed and reported in line with Group and local statutory requirements.
  • Act as point of contact for finance teams for reporting issues and queries, including issues encountered with the loading of their monthly results using Financial Data Quality Management (FDM).
  • Assisting with the monthly consolidation process by calculating and posting consolidation journals in Hyperion Financial Management (HFM).
  • Support the Financial Reporting Coordinator and Group Financial Reporting Manager with ad hoc analysis as required.
  • Prepare ad hoc accounting papers as required.
  • Ensure notes for interim and year end external reporting are prepared to a high standard and in line with agreed deadlines.
  • Review data submissions, ensuring accuracy with all validations cleared and/or understood.
  • Liaise with the auditors to ensure smooth and efficient running of the interim and year end audits.
  • Contribute to accounting issues papers and audit committee reporting as required.
  • Contribute to Group-wide finance projects.

Qualifications:

  • Educated to degree level with relevant accounting qualification (e.g. qualified chartered accountant).
  • At least one year PQE preferred.
  • Experience of working on a group consolidation and interim and year end reporting.
  • Experience with complex analysis and technical accounting matters.
  • Demonstrated experience working within a team to deliver against stretch targets: includes working with cross-geographical teams.
  • Experience of using Hyperion Financial Management and Financial Data Quality Management would be advantageous.
  • Experience in the mining industry would be advantageous.
  • Ability to problem solve with information at their disposal.
  • Ability to manage internal stakeholders to achieve objectives.
  • Time management: prioritise, structure work & effectively manage time.
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to communicate at all levels across the business and externally – able to give clarity and set direction.
  • Understands and applies relevant accounting principles, IFRS, policies and processes: able to research, understand and consider impacts of different approaches and how this will impact the results.
  • Understands the principles of effective finance systems: understanding of HFM and other tools advantageous.
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of project management tools and their application: able to independently operate project management tools and their implementation, including rolling these out to other businesses within the Group.
  • Applies Governance and Compliance knowledge to organisational processes and procedures and understands how governance, risk and compliance processes impact on the business.
  • Uses a range of data and information sources to perform analysis and produce management reports.
  • Operational mining knowledge advantageous.
