ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to join DC Thomson’s engineering team and play a pivotal role in collaborating with engineering, product and technology teams and skillsets from across the organisation. This is a high-impact leadership position responsible for a team of dedicated engineers who deliver value to our customers, products, communities and business.
As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will have both strategic and operational responsibility for:
- People: You will be a thought leader in your space, driving change through others. Ensuring you support continued growth and foster a working environment that enables continuous learning and high-velocity decision making. You will champion a culture of practice and experimentation and will play a key role in modelling that approach whilst also taking advantage of industry-standard training services that support you and your team’s career development.
- Process and Technology: You will enable high-quality software delivery and evolve our engineering culture to thrive in a transformational and outcomes-focussed environment. Your role is critical for both ensuring the execution of our current strategy and forming our future strategies around the engineering involvement and digital transformation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build a high-impact distributed engineering organisation
- Shape the structure of the Engineering team to deliver effectively against the needs of the organisation
- Lead all aspects of people management for engineering employees, including talent, recruitment, coaching and implementing an outcome-oriented engineering culture
- Ensure products and systems are developed within an overall architectural blueprint which accommodates regular innovation and evolution
Other areas you’ll contribute to:
- Establish and evolve working methodologies and processes in order to identify and remove bottlenecks and optimise our teams’ delivery practices
- Help coordinate with external stakeholders

- Excel at facilitating, coaching and mentoring teams towards rapidly delivering high-impact, high-quality software in a sustainable fashion

- Able to educate on various ways of working and flow for getting work done

We have offices in London, Dundee, Aberdeen and Glasgow but welcome applications from UK-based candidates interested in a predominantly home/remote-based role. Our engineering team members tend to meet regularly in our London and Dundee offices. You may be required to attend any of our UK offices for team gatherings, key meetings and other work-related events.
