A manufacturer of steel construction-related products supplied nationally is seeking an Assistant Production Manager to join their team near Walsall. The company has been operating for over 50 years with multiple facilities across the Black Country. Recently, due to a surge in business, turnover has doubled, creating a need for key hires to implement new systems, processes, and modern ways of working to reduce costs. This is a new position designed to support the Production Manager in achieving production targets OTIF (On Time In Full) and within budget.

The production team comprises approximately 80 skilled workers including welders, fabricators, metal workers, machinists, and logistics staff. Reporting to the Production Manager, the Assistant Production Manager will oversee a team of around 50 staff to ensure production goals are met.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading three production areas on site, including steel fabrication, and elevating production standards
  • Implementing changes within the factory and monitoring their effectiveness
  • Collaborating with the wider team to ensure availability of materials and tools, optimizing for effectiveness and cost-efficiency
  • Training and developing staff to maintain a highly skilled, motivated, and capable team
  • Managing budgets and seeking cost-saving opportunities
  • Ensuring strict adherence to health and safety procedures
