Software Test Engineer

Location: Portsmouth Clearance Required: Must be eligible for or hold SC Clearance Work Arrangement: Hybrid (On-site presence required based on team needs) Hourly Rate: £50p/h Inside IR35 Umbrella Overview We are seeking a skilled Software Test Engineer to join our agile Scrum team, contributing to the development and delivery of cutting-edge software solutions in the Satellite Communications domain. This role involves working across the full software development lifecycle, with a strong focus on test automation, exploratory testing, and quality assurance. Key Responsibilities Validate and verify code quality for new product development using agile methodologies. Design, implement, and execute manual and automated test cases using Java, Selenium, Cucumber, and Postman. Collaborate with developers and stakeholders to define test strategies and acceptance criteria. Interpret Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) diagrams to inform test planning. Participate in sprint planning, task estimation, and daily stand-ups. Produce and maintain test documentation in line with project standards. Support Test Readiness Boards and Test Reviews under the guidance of the Test Lead. Work independently and collaboratively to complete test phases across the development lifecycle. Required Skills & Experience Strong understanding of Agile development processes. Proven experience in test automation using Java and Selenium. Proficiency in testing RESTful APIs using Postman or similar tools. Familiarity with tools such as Git and Jira. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality. Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment. Ability to deliver results on time and within scope. Desirable Skills Experience with Cucumber for BDD testing. Understanding of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE). Ability to promote innovation and continuous improvement. Experience interacting with internal and external stakeholders in a professional manner. Additional Information Due to the nature of the work, some on-site presence is required.
