Job Purpose
We are seeking a dedicated Water Network Technician to support the day-to-day operation and maintenance of Clean Water Network assets, ensuring United Utilities meets its operational objectives. You will take ownership of assets within a defined geographical area, including service reservoirs, network and boundary valves, pumping stations, water distribution mains, trunk mains, and District Meter Areas (DMAs).
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- Inspect and maintain water network assets including service reservoirs, pumping stations, air valves, trunk mains, pressure vessels, and pipe bridges, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
- Identify and implement asset optimisation opportunities within a defined geographical area, including managing asset status, conducting boundary valve checks, and supporting network investigations and improvements.
- Support operational continuity by undertaking network risk assessments, incident response, DMA/DPA setup, water network rezones, and pressure and flow investigations.
- Oversee third-party works by ensuring contractor sign-off, maintaining site access and security, and supporting statutory testing of pressure vessels and other critical infrastructure.
- Operate and maintain essential equipment, including pumps, standby generators, and loggers, while ensuring all PPE and vehicles meet United Utilities’ Health & Safety policies.
Technical Skills & Experience
- Demonstrable water network technical experience, including leakage detection and repair.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Effective influencing and negotiation skills.
- Strong customer service focus and ability to resolve customer issues.
- Ability to work alone as well as effectively as part of a team.
- A good level of competency in the use of relevant IT packages.
- Previous experience of working in an operational environment & experience of working within water networks.
This role forms part of a shift and standby rota.
Qualifications
- GCSE grade C or above, City and Guilds, or ability to demonstrate technical and customer skills.
