Sonia Friedman Productions is seeking applications for an experienced Associate Director to work on the West End transfer of the National Theatre's recent production of THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST. Written by Oscar Wilde, directed by Max Webster, with set and costume design by Rae Smith, lighting design by Jon Clark, sound design by Nicola T. Chang and music by DJ Walde - this play will arrive in the West End in September 2025.
Your duties and responsibilities will be those normally expected of an Associate Director on a first-class West End production. The Associate Director will work with the Director in delivering the creative vision of the production, as well as providing research and administrative support. Your responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:
- Rehearsing the understudies and supervising and noting the weekly understudy rehearsals and show watching an understudy's first performance on stage;
- Watching and noting the show at least once per week;
- Attending and facilitating post-show question and answer sessions in the absence of the Director;
- Any other tasks that the Producer or the Director may reasonably request.
You will provide strong support to the Director, liaising between many different departments, so it is important you have good communication skills.

Please Note: All applicants must be able to commit to the full contract and must have the right to work in the UK.
Job Location: Central London
Contract Type: Fixed term until Saturday, 10th January 2026, or for the run of the Production, whichever shall be the shorter, subject to two weeks' notice by the Producer as per the SOLT/Equity Agreement.
Salary: in line with the industry standard
Weekly Hours: 6 day working weeks; 8 shows per week plus maintenance and understudy calls.
