As an Investment Strategy Manager you will play a vital part in ensuring Affinity Water can demonstrably select the right investments to deliver high quality drinking water to our diverse customer base both now and in the future. You will develop and manage Affinity Water’s strategic investment planning capability to deliver our long and short term Totex investment plans. You will ensure we develop and optimise our investment plans in accordance with asset management best practice, demonstrating line of sight between our outcomes and investment decisions through effectively managing risk and benefits.
As a regulated water company in the UK, we need to make intelligent strategic investment decisions to manage our long-term and short-term investments. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and further developing Affinity Water’s strategic investment planning capability in line with the Institute of Asset Management’s Subject Specific Guidelines. You will work within the Strategic Asset Management and Insight team and be managing a small team of your own with cross-functional engagement to coordinate business needs/insights and develop our service measure framework. This role will also require familiarity with Copperleaf (or similar) Investment Planning tools.
What you’ll be doing:
- Develop and manage Affinity Water’s strategic investment planning capability in line with best practice asset management principles
- Manage a small team
- Engage with Ofwat and other industry partners to articulate and develop Affinity Water’s approach to strategic planning
- Engage across the business and regulatory stakeholders to gather investment requirements and key outcomes to inform investment prioritisation
- Lead development of a company-wide value framework against which investments can be assessed to establish line of sight
- Lead the embedding of Copperleaf to analyse data and identify the most effective ways to allocate and optimise Capex/Opex expenditure within the Delivery Plan
- Identify metrics to analyse investment and support optimisation of investment decisions to deliver business outcomes
- Support the development of risk-based investment decision making frameworks across programmes
- Support the standardisation of asset health measurement across asset investment decision making
What you need:
- Experience / Knowledge of Strategic investment planning in Asset intensive organisations (eg. Value framework, line of sight, etc)
- Experience in asset intensive industry
- Knowledge of UK water sector and regulatory regime
- Experience working cross-directorate within large organisations
- Experience working with enterprise asset management systems (EAMS) and portfolio optimisation tools
- Experience supporting/leading organisational change
- Degree in engineering - Desirable
- Institute of Asset Management Certificate - Desirable
